The Skeena Area
The Skeena and its various tributaries are home to the best Steelhead
fishing in the world. Stunning scenery, gorgeous water, abundant
wildlife and of course some of the largest wild Steelhead on this
planet. This is the finest fishing that British Columbia has to
offer, every serious angler should experience it once in their lifetime.
Be forwarned though, this is an angling experience with unrivalled
addictive qualities. The thought of a big strong wild Steelhead
rising to take your skated dryfly is the stuff that dreams are made
of. It really is hard to let Steelhead season pass by without a
trip to Skeena country. With thousands of miles of gorgeous fly
water, stunning vistas and both winter(spring) and summer(fall)
runs of wild Steelhead, it is the whole experience that makes the
Skeena so special.
Guiding on the Skeena is strictly regulated by the provincial government
limiting the amount of guided days that any operation may do in
a particular season. Due to this the best weeks at the best lodges
are often reserved many years in advance. We have access to some
very good weeks and are able to put together trips on the Skeena,
Bulkley, Kispiox, and Copper Rivers on fairly short notice. As well
we specialize in getting our customers what they need for their
northern BC Steelhead adventure and are able to answer any questions
that you may have.
We realize that guides and lodges, as great as they may be, are
not for everyone. Part of the BC Steelheading experience for some
is the adventure of ‘doing it yourself’. Whistler Flyfishing
knows Steelheading in Skeena country and can help make your trip
a success. We stock all of the necessary fly tackle and fly patterns
as well as offering reliable advice.
Many visiting anglers choose to begin their foray into Steelhead
country with a stop in at Whistler Flyfishing. Driving from Vancouver
north to the Skeena through Whistler is similar travel time as heading
straight out Highway #1. The drive north from Whistler over the
spectacular and uncrowded Duffy Lake road is one of the most beautiful
drives in BC.
