Brian Niska has been fly fishing in fresh and saltwater for twenty five years. He has sixteen years of guiding experience in a variety of locales including South America and all over British Columbia, mainly the many rivers in the Whistler area and the world famous Bulkley River in northern BC. Speyfishing for Steelhead and Chinook Salmon is Brian’s specialty and he is fortunate to spend a good portion of the year pursuing these fish.
Brian has been involved in the fishing industry for over twenty years working in retail, as a commercial fly tier, guide and instructor of casting, fly fishing and fly tying courses. He is especially sought after as a speycasting instructor, teaching his smooth blend of skagit and underhand styles. Brian’s skills as both a fly caster and instructor have made him a featured fly casting demonstrator at many fishing and outdoor shows throughout western Canada. He has also appeared on various fishing show episodes including The New Fly fisher, Sportfishing BC, Fishing with Shelly and Courtney and Fly fishing America.
Certified as a Master Casting Instructor and Two Handed Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers, Brian is a professional casting instructor with Loop Tackle. He is in charge of their Canadian service center and heads their Canadian development, providing input on new and existing Loop products as well as designing new fly lines. Brian has also recently joined the pro staff of the popular online site flybc.ca as their resident Spey expert.
A strong advocate of habitat restoration to preserve wild fish stocks, Brian is dedicated to the preservation of wild fish and the pristine waters essential to their survival. He has served as a director of the Steelhead Society of British Columbia, is president of the Whistler Angling Club and is a past member of the Osprey Flyfishers of British Columbia.
